Saturday the 15th of November 2025 marked a truly distinguished occasion at Reekworth High School—an enriching and intellectually stimulating day that deepened the school’s commitment to global education. We had the honor of engaging and liaising with fellow educators and esteemed staff members from the Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe. This interaction provided a wealth of insight into the depth of Chinese culture, the strategic value of studying the Chinese language, and the wide-ranging academic and professional opportunities it unlocks. The discussions cast new light on the vast digital resources now available to support language learning, positioning Chinese as a powerful tool in today’s interconnected world.
The event itself was highly educative and exceptionally well-curated. Cultural and language exhibitions offered a vivid window into contemporary Chinese life, while the Chinese quiz challenged participants to think critically and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. One-on-one question-and-answer sessions with enthusiastic parents further underscored the growing interest in Chinese language education, transforming the environment into a dynamic community outreach. The atmosphere was vibrant yet purposeful—an ideal blend of cultural celebration and academic exploration.

In her remarks whilst showcasing Chinese cultural products, Chinese/Shona/English publications by Zimbabwean scholars Ms Shoko highlighted that, despite the increasing dominance of screens and digital content in our world, reading books is still an essential practice because the cognitive and emotional benefits of traditional reading cannot be overstated.

Worth mentioning is Runako Njitima (2024 Chinese Bridge winner for secondary schools) and Pearl Chawatama’s dancing moves that wooed the crowd. The picture below shows two Shining stars in Chinese language at Reekworth High performing Chinese dances.

Indeed it was a wonderful day as Reekworth Administrator also acknowledged that the presence of CIUZ has elevated the occasion and reaffirmed the importance of cultivating global competence within their school community. This was an experience of lasting significance—a milestone in our ongoing pursuit of educational excellence. It reminded us that when educators, learners, and communities come together with a shared vision, the possibilities for growth and transformation become truly boundless.
And finally it was time for fun:
Reekworth行政主管亦由衷表示,孔子学院的到来让本次活动“升格”,再次印证了培养全球胜任力在校园发展中的核心地位。这场盛会意义深远,是我们追求教育卓越道路上的又一里程碑;它提醒我们:当教育者、学习者与社区怀揣共同愿景携手前行,成长与蜕变的可能将无可限量。
