My visit to China was not just a journey across continents; it was a transformative learning experience that reshaped my understanding of Chinese language teaching and deepened my passion as an educator.
我的中国之行,不仅是跨越大陆的旅程,更是一次宝贵的学习经历,它重塑了我对中文教学的理解,也强化了我作为教育者的热情。
On 10 December, I departed from Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport heading to Beijing, China, to attend a teacher training workshop at the prestigious Beijing Normal University (BNU). As it was my first time attending such an international training, I was unsure exactly what to expect. Still, I kept reminding myself that this opportunity would help me become a better and more effective Chinese language teacher. With that belief, I embraced the journey with excitement, courage, and an open mind.
12月10日,我从罗伯特·加布里埃尔·穆加贝国际机场启程,前往中国北京,参加享有盛誉的北京师范大学(BNU)举办的教师培训工作坊。这是我第一次参加此类国际培训,我并不知道自己将面对什么。但我不断提醒自己,这次机会将帮助我成为更优秀、更高效的中文教师。带着这一信念,我满怀兴奋、勇气与开放的心态踏上了旅程。
The 2025 Training Program in China for Local Chinese Language Teachers and Observation of the “Chinese Language Teaching Aces” Exchange Event was held from 11 to 20 December 2025. Teachers from Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and North America came together, forming one vibrant global family united by a shared goal: to learn, to exchange ideas, and to improve the teaching of the Chinese language in our respective countries. Despite our different backgrounds, we connected easily through our common passion for education.
2025年中国本土中文教师培训暨“中文教学高手”交流观摩活动于12月11日至20日举行。来自欧洲、亚洲、非洲、南美洲和北美洲的教师们汇聚一堂,组成了一个充满活力的全球大家庭,大家怀着共同的目标:学习、交流思想、提升各自国家的中文教学水平。尽管背景不同,但我们因对教育的共同热情而迅速拉近了距离。
The training lessons were carefully designed to meet the needs of teachers, covering diverse and meaningful topics. We explored Professional Knowledge and Skills in the Chinese Language, focusing on what is expected of us as Chinese language teachers. The lectures covered areas such as Chinese Language Knowledge and Pedagogy, Modern Chinese, Chinese History and Culture, Chinese Culture Pedagogy, Integrated Chinese Language Classroom Pedagogy, and Designing Classroom Activities. Each session was rich, practical, and inspiring, equipping us with tools we could immediately relate to our own classrooms.
培训课程经过精心设计,贴合教师需求,涵盖多元且富有意义的主题。我们深入学习了中文语言的专业知识与技能,聚焦作为中文教师应具备的素养。讲座内容涵盖汉语知识与教学法、现代汉语、中国历史与文化、中华文化教学法、综合汉语课堂教学法以及课堂活动设计等。每一堂课都内容丰富、实用且富有启发性,为我们提供了可立即应用于自身课堂的工具。
The learning experience is even more exciting, especially in how theory was always linked to practice. After many lessons, we participated in group outings where we experienced firsthand what we had learned in the classroom. One of the most memorable visits was to the Capital Museum in Beijing, a place where Chinese history and culture are beautifully preserved. Seeing history come alive through artifacts and exhibitions helped me understand concepts that I had previously found difficult to fully explain. Now, with firsthand experience, I can confidently and vividly share these stories with my students. That visit left a lasting impression on me and remains one of the highlights of the training.
学习体验尤为令人兴奋的一点,是理论始终与实践紧密结合。许多课程结束后,我们都参加了小组外出活动,亲身感受课堂所学。其中最难忘的一次,是参观北京首都博物馆——一个完美保存中国历史与文化的场所。通过文物与展览,历史在眼前鲜活呈现,这让我对那些曾难以完全阐释的概念有了深刻理解。如今,凭借亲身体验,我可以自信而生动地将这些故事分享给我的学生。那次参观给我留下了深刻印象,也成为本次培训的高光时刻之一。
We also covered Modern Educational Technology, where we were introduced to the use of AI in teaching. This opened my eyes to new possibilities in lesson planning, classroom engagement, and language learning. Another valuable experience was our visit to Beijing Experimental Elementary School, where we observed Chinese teachers conducting real lessons. Watching how teachers and students interacted was inspiring—the classrooms were learner-centered, students were fully engaged, and learning was lively and exciting. From teaching methods to classroom management, there was so much to learn and reflect on.
我们还学习了现代教育技术,接触了人工智能在教学中的应用,这让我看到了课程设计、课堂互动与语言学习的新可能。另一段宝贵的经历,是参访北京实验小学,观摩中文教师的真实课堂。目睹师生互动令人深受启发:课堂以学生为中心,学生全情投入,学习过程生动而有趣。从教学方法到课堂管理,处处皆有可学可思之处。
After the intensive training sessions, we were given a day to relax and take part in group activities, exploring the beauty of China and tasting its delicious delicacies. Despite the cold weather, we had great fun, shared laughter, and made unforgettable memories while keeping ourselves warm through teamwork and joy.
紧张的学习结束后,我们获得一天放松时间,参与小组活动,领略中国的美景,品尝地道美食。尽管天气寒冷,我们却因团队合作与欢声笑语而倍感温暖,留下了难忘回忆。
At the end of the program, we observed participants who had advanced to the final competition round. The teachers were outstanding, confidently applying what they had learned during the training. They approached topics in creative and unique ways, making lessons both exciting and highly educational. Watching them reinforced my own learning and motivated me to continue growing professionally.
项目尾声,我们观摩了晋级决赛的选手展示。教师们表现卓越,自信地运用培训所学,以创意独特的方式设计课程,使课堂既精彩又富有教育意义。观摩他们的表现,不仅巩固了我的学习成果,也激励我继续专业成长。
I truly learned a great deal from this training, and I am confident that the knowledge and skills I gained will also benefit my fellow teachers in Zimbabwe. Even with limited resources, I believe that through improvisation and creativity, we can make our classroom activities more meaningful and effective in teaching the Chinese language.
此次培训让我受益匪浅,我深信所学知识与技能也将惠及津巴布韦的同仁。即便资源有限,我相信通过因地制宜与创意发挥,我们同样能让课堂活动更有意义、更高效地教授中文。
Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the organizers, the dedicated team at Beijing Normal University, and my Directors at the Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe (CIUZ) for making this trip a great success. Their support, care, and commitment made this journey smooth and memorable. I truly hope to visit again next year—this time to share our success stories and the impact of what we learned.
