Remarks by the Representative of the "China-Zimbabwe Friendship Scholarship" Award ees “ 中津友谊奖学金 ”获奖代表发言稿

Distinguished Ambassador Zhou Ding ,representatives of the Chinese Embassy, respected education officials, dear teachers and mentors, invited guests, fellow scholarship recipients, proud parents and guardians, ladies and gentlemen, good day.

尊敬的周鼎大使 、 中国大使馆各位代表 、尊敬的教育部领导 、亲爱的老师们 、各位受邀嘉宾、 同为获奖者的各位同学、满怀自豪的家长们、女士们、先生们，大家好。

First and foremost, on behalf of every single student gathered here today, I would like to express our deepest and most sincere gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for this extraordinary scholarship opportunity. You have not merely given us financial support; you have given us hope, you have given us a future, and you have shown us that our dreams are worth investing in . In a world where many young people face barriers to quality education, this scholarship stands as a powerful reminder that someone, somewhere, believes in our potential. That belief is a gift more precious than any amount of money.

首先 ，请允许我代表今天到场的每一位同学 ， 向中国大使馆表达我们最深沉 、最诚挚的谢意 。你们给予我们的不仅仅是经济上的支持，你们给予我们的是希望，是未来，你们让我们知道——我们的梦想值得被投资 。在这个世界上，许多年轻人面临着优质教育的重重障碍，而这项奖学金有力地提醒我们：在某个地方，有人相信我们的潜力 。这份信任， 比任何金钱都更加珍贵。

This scholarship is far more than a certificate or a bank transfer. It is an encouragement for us to work harder, to dream bigger, and to envision ourselves as responsible citizens who can contribute positively to our communities, our country, and indeed, to the world. When we open our Chinese textbooks each morning, when we struggle to pronounce those challenging tones, when we practice writing characters until our hands grow tired—we do so knowing that this opportunity was entrusted to us by friends who saw something in us that perhaps we had not yet seen in ourselves . For that faith, we are eternally grateful.

这项奖学金，远远不止是一纸证书或一笔资金 。它激励我们更加刻苦地学习，敢于拥有更大的梦想，激励我们成为能够积极回馈社区、 回馈国家、乃至回馈世界的负责任公民 。每天清晨，当我们翻开中文课本； 当我们努力练习那些艰难的发音； 当我们反复书写汉字直到手指酸痛——我们深知，这份机会是朋友们托付给我们的，他们在我们自己尚未看清自身潜力的时候，就已经看到了我们身上的光芒。对于这份信任，我们永远感激不尽。

We are deeply grateful, too, for the friendship and cooperation that continues to grow, stronger and deeper, between Zimbabwe and China . This relationship is not simply about diplomacy or trade agreements written in formal language . It is about people . It is about Chinese teachers who leave their homes and families to come and live among us, to share their language, their culture, and their hearts . It is about Zimbabwean students who will one day speak Mandarin fluently and serve as bridges between our two great nations . Through education, through cultural exchange, through shared meals and shared classrooms, we are learning every single day that friendship can indeed build bridges between people and between nations—bridges that no distance can break and no challenge can destroy.

我们同样深深感激津巴布韦与中国之间持续深化、 日益牢固的友谊与合作关系 。这种关系不仅仅是外交辞令或贸易协定，它是关于人的关系 。它关乎那些离开家乡和亲人、来到我们中间分享语言、文化和真心的中国老师们 。它关乎我们这些有朝一日能够流利说中文的津巴布韦学生，我们终将成为连接我们两个伟大国家的桥梁 。通过教育、文化交流、共享的课堂与餐桌 ，我们每天都在学习一个真理： 友谊确实能够在人与人之间 、在国与国之间架起桥梁——这些桥梁，没有任何距离能够拆毁，没有任何挑战能够破坏。

As scholarship recipients, we fully understand that this opportunity comes with profound responsibility. Let us be honest with ourselves and with our benefactors: learning a new language is not easy. It requires patience when the characters blur together on the page . It requires dedication when we must wake early to practice pronunciation . It requires discipline when our friends are out enjoying themselves and we must stay indoors to study. It requires commitment when the grammar seems impossible and the tones feel like an impossible puzzle . But we are ready. We are ready to embrace this challenge with open hearts and determined minds .

We promise to uphold the values of discipline, hard work, respect, and integrity—not just in the classroom, but in every aspect of our lives . We know that when we succeed, we do not succeed alone . We carry with us the hopes of our families, the expectations of our teachers, and the trust of the Chinese people who have invested in our futures .

我们庄严而诚挚地承诺： 我们会认真对待学业 。我们承诺珍惜每一小时、每一种资源、每一份传授给我们的智慧 。我们承诺恪守纪律、勤奋、尊重和正直的价值观——不仅在课堂上，更在生活的方方面面 。我们知道，当我们成功时，我们并非独自成功 。我们承载着家人的期盼、老师的期望， 以及中国人民对我们未来的信任。

On behalf of all the students here today, I would also like to thank our parents, our guardians, our teachers, and every single person who has supported us throughout our educational journey. To our mothers and fathers who sacrificed so that we might have uniforms, books, and school fees— tinokutendai. To our teachers who stayed late after class to explain a difficult concept one more time—tinokutendai. To our friends who encouraged us when we wanted to give up— tinokutendai. Your encouragement has played an indispensable role in helping us reach this point. It has given us the confidence to pursue dreams that once seemed distant and impossible . You are the foundation upon which this scholarship rests, and we will never forget your love and sacrifice .

Let us remember that this scholarship is not the end of our journey, but the magnificent beginning of greater opportunities and even greater responsibilities . Let us support one another. Let us form study groups and lift each other up when the work becomes difficult. Let us share our successes and our struggles alike . Let us not only become successful students, but also responsible citizens and future ambassadors of friendship between Zimbabwe and China . One day, we will look back on this moment and realize that it was here, on this day, that our lives changed forever.

We dream of a future where a Zimbabwean doctor trained in China saves lives in a rural clinic . We dream of a future where a Zimbabwean engineer who studied Mandarin helps build infrastructure that connects our nation . We dream of a future where cultural understanding replaces ignorance, where cooperation replaces conflict, and where the friendship between our two peoples shines as a beacon for the entire world. That future begins with us . That future begins today.

We are truly honoured— more than words can express—to be part of the Zimbabwe-China friendship.
