奇瓦拉兹小学课堂探险

On October 2, 2025, our Chinese class transformed the Four Seasons Restaurant kitchen into a vibrant classroom. With chopsticks in one hand and a sense of curiosity in the other, our learners rolled up their sleeves to make traditional Chinese dumplings and sample authentic Chinese dishes. The session was a tasty blend of language practice, cultural exchange, and hands‑on fun.


2025102日,我们的中文课将四季餐厅的厨房变成了一个充满活力的课堂。学生们一手拿着筷子,一手带着好奇心,卷起袖子,亲手包起了中国的传统美食--饺子,并品尝了正宗的中国菜肴。这节课是语言练习、文化交流和动手乐趣的美味融合。



Activities that the students took part in included the following:

学生们参与的活动包括:

Dumpling Making: After a demonstration on how to make dumplings, the students began mixing pork, cabbage, ginger, and soy sauce. They then folded and pleated their creations. New vocabulary was also learned during the process, such as: 饺子 (jiǎozi), 面粉 (miànfěn), 馅儿(xiànr), 煮 (zhǔ).

包饺子:在观看完包饺子的示范后,学生们开始混合猪肉、白菜、姜和酱油,然后折叠并捏出褶皱。在此过程中,他们还学习了一些新词汇,如:饺子(jiǎozi)、面粉(miànfěn)、馅儿(xiànr)、煮(zhǔ)。

Sentence patterns: “我们正在包饺子” (Wǒmen zhèngzài bāo jiǎozi) 

句型练习:我们正在包饺子Wǒmen zhèngzài bāo jiǎozi

Tasting Session: After the cooking was done, the students were treated to the pleasures of what they had cooked. This included fried and boiled dumplings, and also the Chinese food, including chicken, green vegetables, fried rice, fruits, and drinks, was served. Students described flavors using new adjectives. Adjectives: 辣 (là – spicy), 咸 (xián – salty), 甜 (tián – sweet), 酸 (suān – sour).

品尝环节:烹饪完成后,学生们享用了自己亲手制作的美食。包括煎饺和水饺,以及其他中餐,如鸡肉、青菜、炒饭、水果和饮料。学生用新学的形容词来描述食物的味道。如形容词:辣(là——辣)、咸(xián——咸)、甜(tián——甜)、酸(suān——酸)。

We also had the opportunity to learn about the Chinese tea culture, sharing the tea. Learners inquired about Chinese tea and its significance. They were told that regardless of whether the weather is hot or cold, Chinese people always drink their tea. 

我们还了解了中国茶文化,一起品茶。学生们对中国茶及其重要性提出了问题。他们被告知,无论天气冷热,中国人都会喝茶。

Indeed, it was a successful event, and the students were thrilled to have such an encounter with the Chinese outside the classroom. The following are the benefits that were derived from this activity:


这确实是一次成功的活动,学生们对能在课堂之外接触中文感到兴奋。以下是此次活动带来的好处:

- Cultural Immersion– Eating and preparing food bridges the gap between the Chinese textbook and lived experience.

文化沉浸——通过吃和做食物,弥合了中文课本与实际生活之间的鸿沟。

- Team Spirit – Working in groups to achieve tasks encouraged peer teaching and natural conversation amongst the students.

团队精神——分组完成任务促进了学生之间的同伴教学和自然交流。
