We’re so excited to share the amazing journey we’ve had at the 2025 International Chinese Bridge Competition, and trust us, it’s been unforgettable!
Our adventure began in Beijing, where we received the warmest welcome from the Chinese Bridge team right at the airport. We stayed in a beautiful, high-end hotel and got the chance to explore iconic places like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace. Every place we visited taught us some special aspects of Chinese culture and history.
With regards to food, we went on a delicious adventure! In Beijing, we savored the world-famous Peking Roast Duck, with its crispy skin and tender meat, perfectly paired with sweet sauce and thin pancakes. It was a royal treat! In both Beijing (Taikoo Li Sanlitun) and Tianjin, we also enjoyed the iconic Chinese hotpot, where we chose our own ingredients, dipped them in flavorful broths, and shared the warm, spicy joy of eating together. It wasn’t just a meal, it was an experience of bonding and laughter.

We traveled to Tianjin, where the first round of competitions took place. Even though our student is still learning at the HSK 2 level, she did so well that we’re incredibly proud of her! One of the most heartwarming highlights of our journey was visiting local Tianjin households! We were warmly welcomed and had the opportunity to share laughter, stories, and traditions. It was a beautiful exchange of cultures, from tasting homemade local dishes to exchanging meaningful cultural gifts. This unforgettable experience reminded us that despite our different backgrounds, human connection knows no borders!
While in Tianjin, we explored the stunning Hai He River, experienced the beauty of Chinese opera, learned about traditional Chinese medicine, and even saw how AI robots are helping in education. Oh, and one of the most exciting parts? We went to the zoo and saw a real-life panda! That moment was so joyful.
The most exciting part of all this adventure and exposure is that our student Thandeka Nakisa Risinamhodzi won a 3-year Chinese government Scholarship and was ranked 5th in Africa. Indeed, what a proud moment!

“打卡”天津
天津港
We visited the Tianjin Port, one of the busiest ports in China. Standing by the docks, watching enormous cargo ships come and go, gave us a powerful sense of China’s thriving global trade and economic strength.
- 站在天津港码头,看万吨巨轮往来穿梭,真切感受中国经济的强劲脉搏;
At the China Maritime Museum, we were transported into an underwater world. The museum featured a rich collection of marine life specimens and interactive exhibits about navigation history and ship construction, both educational and thrilling!
- 在中国海事博物馆,仿佛置身海底世界,琳琅满目的海洋生物标本与航海互动展让我们大开眼界;
We also visited a traditional martial arts school and were amazed by the students’ live performances. From Tai Chi to Shaolin-style routines, every move was filled with strength and grace. It was clear that martial arts are not only a sport but also a deep cultural heritage.
The traditional Chinese puppet show in Tianjin left a lasting impression on us. The puppets, brought to life by skilled artists, acted out stories with expressive gestures, lively music, and local dialects, a truly magical folk art experience.
“狗不理包子”
When it comes to food, we couldn’t leave Tianjin without trying its most famous snack, the legendary Goubuli Baozi! These traditional steamed buns were juicy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious, totally worth the hype.
五大道
We also strolled through the charming Wudadao, a historical area filled with European-style architecture. Riding in a horse-drawn carriage through the scenic streets felt like stepping back in time and offered a beautiful glimpse into Tianjin’s colonial-era past.
All these experiences showed us that China is not only rich in language and culture, but also full of history, innovation, and unforgettable moments. Participating in the Chinese Bridge competition and exploring real Chinese life has truly been a life-changing journey!
We had a great time, made lasting friendships, and discovered the beauty of the Chinese language and culture. For all students, learning Chinese opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Trust us, it’s worth it!
