On the morning of March 13, 2026, the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Confucius Institute was invited to Mother Touch High School in Harare to participate in the school's annual "Career Day" event. Serving as an important bridge connecting campus and the workplace, this event brought together professionals from various fields, combining career sharing and cultural experiences to help students broaden their international horizons and plan their career development paths early.
Mother Touch基督教学校集团自1997年创立以来，始终致力于提供优质的全人教育。作为经津巴布韦中小学教育部正式批准注册的教育机构，学校涵盖幼儿教育至高中（Forms 1-6）全学段，并设有寄宿服务，在Tynwald South、Victoria Falls和Selous等地均设有校区。学校不仅提供ZIMSEC国家课程与剑桥国际考试双轨体系，更配备游泳池、礼拜堂、科学实验室等现代化设施，为学生成长成才奠定坚实基础。
Since its establishment in 1997, Mother Touch Christian Schools Group has been committed to providing quality holistic education. As an officially registered educational institution approved by the Zimbabwe Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, the school offers complete programs from early childhood education to high school (Forms 1-6), along with boarding services. It has campuses in Tynwald South, Victoria Falls, and Selous, among other locations. The school not only provides a dual-track curriculum system of ZIMSEC national curriculum and Cambridge International Examinations but also features modern facilities including swimming pools, chapels, and science laboratories, laying a solid foundation for students' growth and success.
自2019年1月引入中文课程以来，Mother Touch高中始终走在津巴布韦中文教育前列，选修中文课程的学生累计近400人。学生们在汉字英雄大赛、汉语桥比赛及各类才艺展示中屡创佳绩，更有优秀学子凭借HSK证书成功申请到奖学金，开启了赴华深造的梦想之旅。“学生们享受学习中文的过程”，中文教师娜米欣慰地表示，“这门语言已成为他们通向更美好未来的重要基石。”
Since introducing Chinese language courses in January 2019, Mother Touch High School has been at the forefront of Chinese education in Zimbabwe, with nearly 400 students having elected to study Chinese. Students have achieved excellent results in the Chinese Characters Hero Competition, Chinese Bridge Competition, and various talent shows. Moreover, outstanding students have successfully applied for scholarships with HSK certificates, embarking on their dream journey to study in China. "Students enjoy the process of learning Chinese," said Namiko, the Chinese teacher, with satisfaction. "This language has become an important cornerstone for them to reach a better future.

On the day of the event, teachers from the UZ Confucius Institute prepared abundant materials, bringing teachers and students a profound experience journey of language and cultural exchange.
Universe on Paper:
The Art of Paper Cutting
一张红纸，一把剪刀，指尖翻飞间绽放出万千世界。中国剪纸艺术历史悠久，流传广泛，通过剪、刻、装饰表现真切情谊。活动现场，老师们先教会学生将方形红纸折叠成适宜形状，再用笔绘上花样图案，然后用剪刀沿着线条剪出美丽的花样，如蝴蝶、窗花、中国结等等。在动手实践的同时，老师们穿插讲解剪纸的历史渊源、工具名称及图案背后的文化寓意，让学生们在锻炼精细动作的同时，感受“以剪代笔、纸上生花”的独特魅力。
A piece of red paper, a pair of scissors—in the fluttering movement of fingertips, a myriad of worlds bloom. Chinese paper cutting boasts a long history and wide circulation, expressing sincere emotions through cutting, carving, and decoration. At the event, teachers first instructed students to fold square red paper into suitable shapes, then drew patterns with pens, and finally used scissors to cut out beautiful designs along the lines, such as butterflies, window flowers, Chinese knots, and more. While practicing hands-on, teachers interspersed explanations of the historical origins of paper cutting, tool names, and the cultural meanings behind patterns, allowing students to exercise fine motor skills while experiencing the unique charm of "using scissors instead of brushes, creating flowers on paper."

Fragrance of Ink:
Calligraphy Experience
书法区内，笔墨纸砚整齐陈列。学生们从“福”字入手，学习其文化意涵与笔画顺序，欣赏对联作品的气韵生动。教师们还根据每位学生的英文名字，现场教授对应的中文表达与毛笔书写技巧，帮助大家完成“我叫丹泽尔”等简单的中文自我介绍。当一幅幅稚嫩却认真的书法作品呈现在宣纸上时，一位校内教师不禁赞叹："这是真正的艺术！"教室内排起的长龙，成为学生们热情参与的最佳注脚。
In the calligraphy area, the four treasures of the study (brush, ink, paper, and inkstone) were neatly arranged. Students started with the character "福" (fortune), learning its cultural connotations and stroke order, appreciating the vivid spirit of couplet works. Teachers also taught corresponding Chinese expressions and brush writing techniques based on each student's English name, helping them complete simple Chinese self-introductions such as "My name is Denzel." When immature yet serious calligraphy works appeared on rice paper, a school teacher couldn't help but exclaim: "This is true art!" The long queue in the classroom became the best footnote to students' enthusiastic participation.

Chopstick Arts and Knotting Arts
“头圆尾方”的筷子承载着中国饮食文化的礼仪与智慧。学生们在掌握正确握筷姿势后，兴致勃勃地挑战用筷子夹取豆子，在轻松愉快的游戏中体悟"天圆地方"的哲学思想与合作互助的处世之道。
Chopsticks, "round at the head and square at the tail," carry the etiquette and wisdom of Chinese dining culture. After mastering the correct grip posture, students enthusiastically challenged themselves to pick up beans with chopsticks, experiencing the philosophy of "round heaven and square earth" and the way of cooperation and mutual assistance in a relaxed and pleasant game.
与此同时，中国结编织区也围满了专注的身影。这门源于远古“结绳记事”的传统技艺，如今已演变为寄托吉祥寓意的装饰艺术。彩绳在指尖穿梭，学生们在互帮互助中编织出一条条精美的手链，将遥远东方的文化血脉绕在腕间，记在心间。
Meanwhile, the Chinese knot weaving area was also surrounded by focused figures. This traditional craft, originating from ancient "knotting to record events," has now evolved into decorative art carrying auspicious meanings. Colorful ropes shuttled between fingertips, and students wove exquisite bracelets through mutual help, wrapping the cultural bloodline of the distant East around their wrists and embedding it in their hearts.

Exploring Opera Masks
中国戏剧脸谱体验区同样人气高涨。教师向师生们讲解京剧脸谱中红、黑、白、金等色彩的象征意义，揭示其如何通过视觉语言表现人物性格与命运。了解文化内涵后，大家纷纷试戴各式脸谱，在互动中感受中华戏曲艺术的博大精深。
The Chinese opera facial mask experience area was equally popular. Teachers explained to faculty and students the symbolic meanings of colors such as red, black, white, and gold in Peking opera masks, revealing how they use visual language to represent character personalities and destinies. After understanding the cultural connotations, everyone tried on various masks, experiencing the profound and extensive nature of Chinese opera art through interaction.
Career Day
作为传播中国文化的“大使”，津巴布韦大学孔子学院始终秉持“中文+”教育理念，在夯实语言教学基础的同时，通过丰富多彩的文化活动帮助学生直观、深入地了解当代中国，激发其探索中国科技与职业发展的热情。
As an "ambassador" spreading Chinese culture, the University of Zimbabwe Confucius Institute consistently adheres to the "Chinese Plus" educational concept. While solidifying the foundation of language teaching, it helps students understand contemporary China intuitively and deeply through colorful cultural activities, stimulating their enthusiasm for exploring Chinese technology and career development.
活动尾声，教室里回荡着一声声真挚的“我想去中国！”。这些在文化体验中播撒下的种子——对汉字的好奇、对艺术的欣赏、对未来的憧憬——终将生根发芽，长成连接中非两地的参天大树，见证更多青春梦想照进现实。
At the end of the event, the classroom echoed with sincere voices saying "I want to go to China!" These seeds sown through cultural experiences—curiosity about Chinese characters, appreciation for art, and longing for the future—will eventually take root and sprout, growing into towering trees connecting China and Africa, witnessing more youthful dreams coming true.
