“汉语桥”夏令营（6）｜一段学术与文化交融的旅程

Hainan Island is a tropical paradise that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich culture and a welcoming hospitality. In addition, it has a comprehensive university that caters for students from all over the world with a variety of academic programs and a good learning environment. With its scenic campus the Hainan university hosted the 2025 Summer camp for international students, with students from different countries which included Zimbabwe, Russia, Cambodia to name a few. Through this cultural exchange I was equipped academically and culturally.

海岛海南，是一处热带天堂，不仅拥有迷人的自然风光、丰富的文化，还以其热情好客闻名于世。此外，这里还有一所面向全球学生开放的综合性大学，提供多样的学术课程与良好的学习环境。海南大学坐落于风景优美的校园之中，2025年，它举办了为期两周的国际学生夏令营，来自津巴布韦、俄罗斯、柬埔寨等不同国家的学生齐聚于此。

During our first lesson we learnt the calligraphic beauty which demonstrated the artistic skill of ancient writers. Mastering Chines calligraphic requires patience, discipline and dedication in which I am still learning. I noted that Chinese people are very proud of their history which is helping to conserve ancient scripts ensuring their availability for future generations. 

通过这次文化交流，我在学术上和文化上都得到了丰富的滋养。在第一堂课中，我们学习了中国书法的艺术之美，它展现了古代书法家的高超技艺。掌握中国书法需要耐心、自律和坚持，我仍在努力学习的过程中。我注意到中国人对自己的历史充满自豪，这种态度也在推动着他们对古代文字的保护，确保这些文化遗产能够代代相传。

Visiting the cultural sites also has broaden my perspectives by increasing my empathy and understanding of the Chinese culture. This has helped me to develop an appreciation for the unique cultural identity of Haikou and its people. Engaging with Haikou people has improved my spoken Chinese and have learnt of their local dialects.

参观文化遗址让我开阔了眼界，也增强了我对中国文化的理解和共情能力。这种体验帮助我逐渐欣赏海口及其人民独特的文化身份。与海口本地人的交流也提升了我的中文口语能力，我还了解到一些本地方言。

The Hainan University’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation captured my eye. The university has a lot of resources which support different faculties. We had an opportunity to shape and mould clay into different techniques and styles which allowed me to express my creativity and bringing ideas into life. This was one of the classes that I really enjoyed as I got to understand that Chinese pottery goes a long way back in their history. 

海南大学对学术卓越和创新的追求给我留下了深刻印象。学校拥有丰富的教学资源，能够支持不同专业的发展。我们有机会尝试用不同的技法和风格制作陶土作品，这让我可以发挥自己的创意，将想法变为现实。这是我最喜欢的一门课程，也让我了解到中国陶艺的悠久历史和深厚的文化底蕴。

Also, interacting with the Chinese children was a delightful experience, as we sang songs together, there was connection that developed and the children were also able to express their thoughts. 

此外，与中国孩子的互动也是一次令人愉快的经历。我们一起唱歌，逐渐建立了连接，孩子们也能够大胆地表达自己的想法。

Exploring Haikou’s technological advancement was fascinating, it left me jaw dropped as we visited the space museum. The sight of it tells how hardworking, committed and dedicated the people are. The city’s technological innovation has improved the resident’s quality of life and its economic growth. My entrepreneurial spirit was awakened as one can see the business opportunities that Haikou has to offer. The Haikou government has implemented policies and initiatives to support graduated students to start a business of their own. 

探索海口的科技发展也让我惊叹不已——我们参观了太空博物馆，仅仅是它的外观就展现出中国人民的勤奋、执着和奉献精神。城市的科技创新不仅提升了居民的生活质量，也带动了当地的经济增长。海口激发了我心中的创业激情，因为这里蕴藏着无限商机。海口市政府也出台了多项政策与措施，鼓励毕业生自主创业。

Haikou’s food culture is a stunning reflection of Hainan’s tropical paradise from its sweet and juicy mangoes and the coconut fruit which is often used in local dishes, desserts and drinks. I got to taste different foods which were breath taking and there were melting in my mouth from the freshness of the sea food to its fruits. 

海口的美食文化是海南热带风情的绝妙体现。从香甜多汁的芒果到常被用于地方菜肴、甜点和饮品的椰子，这些美食令人惊艳。我尝试了各种美味佳肴，从新鲜的海产到热带水果，每一口都令人陶醉、唇齿留香。

My trip to Hainan was an unforgettable experience that left me with a lifelong memory, filled with indescribable emotions.  Although, it was only for two weeks the trip had a great impact on my Chinese cultural understanding and it has challenged me to work hard in my academic studies and apply for scholarship. 

海南之行让人难忘，带给我许多难以言表的情感与回忆。虽然只有短短两周的时间，但它对我理解中国文化产生了深远的影响，也激励我更加努力学习，争取申请奖学金，未来去中国继续深造。
