They expressed the wish to deepen mutual learning between the two civilisations via art and pass down the China-Africa friendship from generation to generation. Transcending boundaries of language and geography, Chinese and foreign guests came together for culture and friendship, witnessing and promoting dialogue between civilisations.

Art Appreciation & Discussion

Ambassador Zhou Ding, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe and a group of painters and calligraphers toured the exhibition leisurely. Pausing before each exquisite work of brush and ink, they savoured the artistic conception of the paintings, exchanged views on the essence of traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, and shared ideas on creation and cultural perceptions. Every stroke embodies the unique charm of Eastern aesthetics, and every painting conveys the beauty of integrated civilisations. Connecting hearts through art, the guests enhanced mutual understanding during the appreciation and discussions, making traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy a silent bond linking China and Africa.

After the tour, a painting donation ceremony was held. Exquisitely created artworks were presented to the President of Zimbabwe, diplomatic envoys and university representatives. Brush and ink carry sincere friendship, and all guests posed for a group photo to capture this precious moment.

Learning Ink Painting

The atmosphere became even more lively when students from the Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe and its affiliated teaching sites entered the exhibition hall. Filled with curiosity, the students got up close to traditional Chinese ink paintings and took photos with the artworks and artists. Under the on-site guidance of Chinese artists, they picked up writing brushes and tried basic techniques such as brush movement, line drawing and ink blending for the first time. Their youthful strokes on the paper reflected their genuine fondness for traditional Chinese art. This immersive experience allowed young people from Zimbabwe to truly feel the glamour of Chinese ink art, sowing the seeds of China-Africa cultural friendship in the hearts of the younger generation.

The “Silk Road in Painting” Exhibition has transformed a one-way cultural display into two-way integration between Chinese and African civilisations. Going forward, the China-AfricaCivilisationMutual Learning, Exchange and Cooperation Research Centre will take the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilisations as an annual brand. We will continue to organise art workshops, joint creation activities and mutual visits, and explore a new cooperation model featuring "art, cultural tourism and cultural and creative industries". We will strive to further advance China-Africa people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and work hand in hand to embrace a future of win-win development for China and Africa.
